I have never been that interested in video journalism but I have fallen into it because of my job. Your site has been a huge inspiration for me and has really created a passion in me for shooting news reports in creative ways with DSLRs. I shoot with 2 GH1's and a Tascam DR-07. Here are a few of my recent pieces.

Hello Dan,

Nicely done and I look forward to seeing more. Having spent time China I would love to see more "Grass Roots" reporting like this. I do believe something is being lost with the disappearing Hutong areas. There was something special about the gritty "Old Beijing" I will miss, I think in many was it was more fascinating, and moving in a human sense.

I do video production professionally with the 5D and XH-A1, and have some interest in possibly doing some stories in China, and have been wondering what obstacles and restrictions you or perspective free-lance reporter might encounter?

Also, I though you and others might find this music video from the early 90's shot around Gulou. Cinematically I found it interesting, and provides a glimpse of a soon to be, lost age.

钟鼓楼-何勇 song in 1980's China:

Thanks,

Dan, fascinating footage! I've never been to China, but after seeing your short films I am anxious to visit. I have been shooting stills for a year with my 5DMk2 and recently started shooting video. Your work has given me new energy toward creating more videos of Marin County. Cheers, Ken.

Hi Dan,

Good to know you're enjoying the new Canon EOS 7D. How do you find it? Initially, I was planning to break my piggy bank to get the 5D mkII but with the arrival of the 7D, this is now my target! I hope to know more about the 7D from the first hand camera user like you.
